[00:00:00] You are in the middle of it. The heat is rising. You are about to say something. You'll spend the next three days processing and somewhere in your body something knows. This isn't really about them today. I am giving you the tool for that exact moment. The one where you catch it just barely and you wanna do something different.
Welcome to Friday Raw Regulation. I'm Erica, and we're closing out one of the most powerful weeks we've done on the regulated life. All week, we've been doing mirror work, annoyance audits, the lazy label, the unpredictable shadow, and today we're ending where all this work eventually lands in the body in real time, in the moment that actually counts.
Today's tool is called somatic ownership, and it's a 60-second pattern interrupt you can use anytime you feel the shadow heat rising. That specific activation [00:01:00] that tells you you're about to project.
Dr. Jill Bolt, Taylor neurosciences and author famously described the 90-second rule. The physiological lifespan of an emotion from neurochemical trigger to full resolution is approximately 90 seconds.
What extends it beyond 90 seconds is thought. The narrative, the story we tell about what just happened and what it means and what they should have done differently. So when we feel the shadow heat. That disproportionate activation, that historical charge, the single most effective thing we can do is interrupt the narrative and stay in the body, not because the feeling isn't valid, but because the feeling belongs to us, not to the person in front of us, and the only place we can actually process it is inside our own physiology.
Polyvagal theory teaches us that the [00:02:00] fastest pathway back to ventral vagal state, back to connection, to groundness, to choice is through the body. Specifically through breath, touch, and interception, the felt sense of the inner body. Somatic ownership uses all three.
Here's the moment I'm talking about. Most of you know it. You are in a conversation or about to start one, and you can feel the heat building in your chest and your throat, maybe your hands, your mind starts loading the argument, the history, the list of everything that's been building, and some part of you, maybe a small part, maybe a tired part, just wants to not do this.
Not because you don't have feelings. But because you've been here before and it never ends the way you need it to, that part of you is wise, and this tool is for that part.
I am gonna walk you through this [00:03:00] slowly now and then I'll give you the quick version you can run in real time.
Step one, stop the speech the moment you feel the shadow. Heat tightness in the throat. Heat in the chest. The urgency to fix them or tell them do not speak.
Not yet. Even if it means saying, I need a minute. Just stop.
Step two, the internal pivot. Mentally, silently, say to yourself, this is my heat. I am responsible for this fire. Not as self blame, as self ownership. There's a difference.
You're not wrong for feeling this. You are claiming it as yours to work with.
Step three, the somatic anchor. Place one hand on your heart and one hand on your belly. Feel [00:04:00] the weight of your own hands. Feel the warmth. Breathe into the heat. Not to eliminate it, but to be present with it in through the nose, out through the mouth.
Stay with it until the urgency to fix them, to speak to attack drops, even just 20%. You don't need it to disappear, just 20%.
Step four, the reentry. When you walk back into the conversation or when you open your mouth, speak from the feeling, not the judgment, instead of you're being so lazy. Try, I'm feeling overwhelmed right now. My system is hitting the limit. [00:05:00] Can we figure this out together? Instead of you never listen, try, i'm feeling disconnected and I really need to feel heard right now.
That is not weakness, that is nervous system leadership and it would change the conversation. Every time.
Use somatic ownership. Anytime you feel the heat rising and you recognize even dimly that the reaction might be bigger than the moment warrants.
You don't need to be certain it's a projection. Just a little suspicion is enough. Practice it in low stakes moments. First, the cabinet door, the slow driver, the text that didn't come. Build the muscle there and it'll be available when you really need it.[00:06:00]
What a week this has been. The annoyance audit, the lazy label, the unpredictable shadow, and today somatic ownership. You've done real work this week just by listening. Let that land. If you wanna take this deeper to do the live somatic integration work and actually move this through your body.
The Stop the Spiral workshop is a 60 minute experience designed exactly for this. It's $37 and it's the most effective nervous system work I offer. Link is in the show notes mind-fusion.com/workshop, and if you just need a soft landing today, a five minute reset to come back to yourself.
The spiral reset audio is free at mind fusion.com/audio. Thank you for doing this work for looking in the mirror this week for being willing to own your fire. [00:07:00] I'll see you Monday. Take good care.
