Sacred Sunday: Safety in Stillness
===
Erica: [00:00:00] Welcome back to your sanctuary. Today is about letting stillness hold you, reminding you that rest isn’t empty—it’s where you come home to yourself.
Welcome back to your sanctuary. Today is not about doing more. It's about remembering that stillness is not empty. It's where you find yourself again. So wherever you are, let's take this moment, just you and me. Feel your body settle into the space around you, the chair, the floor, the bed, or the quiet corner you've claimed is your own.
Take a deep breath in through your nose, hold it
and exhale through your mouth slow and steady.
Let your [00:01:00] jaw UNC Unclench clenched. Drop your shoulders, let yourself arrive. Notice the quiet that comes with your breath. Let's talk about why that quiet matters.
You've been running, haven't you Chasing the next task, the next fix, the next reason to feel like you're "enough". You might not even notice how fast you're moving, how your mind skips ahead, how your breath gets shallow.
How your shoulders inch up towards your ears.
But here's the truth, the part of you that's screaming for rest isn't lazy. It's the part that knows you can't heal while you're sprinting. Stillness can feel unsafe for some of us because when it's quiet, all the [00:02:00] thoughts you've been avoiding come rushing in.
The old memories, the whispers of you're not doing enough. The fear that if you stop even for a moment, you'll fall behind. But let me tell you something, your nervous system needs to hear. You're not behind. There's no race, and you don't need to earn the right to breathe.
Your body is not a machine, it's a home. And even the strongest homes need a moment of stillness to hold steady.
So what would it be like to trust the quiet, to let stillness be a friend, not a threat.
What if, just for the next few breaths. You let yourself believe that rest is not a reward, that stillness is [00:03:00] safe. Ask yourself this. What's one thing I've been afraid to feel in the quiet?
And what if instead of running from it, I just gave it 60 seconds of compassion?
Let's give that a try together right now.
Let's practice.
Close your eyes if that feels safe. Place your hand over your heart and feel its rhythm. Inhale through your nose, soft, slow, gentle, hold that breath. Feel your heart beating beneath your hand.
Exhale through your mouth, letting your shoulders drop. Letting your belly soften.[00:04:00]
Feel the warmth of your hand. Feel the gentle rise and fall of your chest. Feel your body soften just a little more. Do that again. Inhale. Hold, exhale.
Whisper to yourself. I am safe here. I am home in this stillness.
Notice how your body feels after just a few breaths of true presence. Let's carry that into the rest of your day.
This is your Sacred Sunday reminder. You don't need to earn stillness. You don't need permission to rest. Stillness is where your truth is loud enough to be heard. [00:05:00] Stillness is where you remember, you're not broken.
You're simply being.
So come back here. To this breath, to this moment, to this sanctuary, whenever your body whispers for home. Remember, stillness isn't just for Sundays. It's a gift you can return to anytime you need a reset, take one last slow inhale with me. Inside it out. Ah.
Thank yourself for choosing stillness. See you next time.
Remember, stillness isn’t something you earn—it’s a gift you can return to anytime. Thank yourself for [00:06:00] choosing this pause, and I’ll see you next time.
